At long last Nebraska is a player in this game!!! We planted in extreme drought, survived a winter during which temperature swings of forty to fifty degrees in a day almost became the norm; and experienced record heat, record cold and record rainfall within ten days. We are now experiencing the most spectacular spring–albeit cold at night and rainy (we’ll take every drop). Our grasses? They’re (mostly)–surviving. This week’s temperatures are predicted to rise into the 80′s with sunshine, so that word may change to thriving.
Only Dewey Blue showed evidence of self-seeding in 2012. Our trial site was beset by deer, voles, moles, and perhaps a whistle pig. The crown damage is obvious in a couple of the pictures.
